Tip your waiter or waitress

20% and round it up if you have to. We make a few cents over two dollars per hour. The lunch or dinner rush is actually just a couple of hours and that is when everybody wants service at the same time. Forgive the waiter/ess if they don't bring you the extra lemon or dressing that you were asking for. I am doing the best that I can, and don't take it personal if I forget something you asked for - like the sauce on the side instead of on the fish. And if we don't have the dressing you like, be happy with the 4 different homemade dressings we have, plus the one we don't make, but is the most popular, Ranch. And if you don't like anything we have on the menu, don't come to our restaurant. The chef/owner flies off the handle when I ask him on your behalf to make something that isn't on the menu - even if he has the ingredients for it. That happens all the time. And another thing, if you tip me very well - don't think I have to hug you goodbye. Got it?

20%, not 15%, and definitely not 10%

"I am doing the best that I can, and don't take it personal if I forget something you asked for - like the sauce on the side instead of on the fish."

NO, YOU'RE NOT! You *CAN* decide to *COMPARE THE PLATE OF FOOD WITH THE ORDER YOU WROTE DOWN AS WELL AS THE MENU IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE MENU! Do you APOLOGIZE when you do forget? Do you honestly EXPECT 20% when you forget, especially if you don’t say you’re sorry?

Do you see that's ****NOT**** in ANY WAY SHAPE OF FORM,”Doing your BEST"? Doing your best is DOUBLE CHECKING the food, DOUBLE CHECKING the check, etc. I've been overcharged and undercharged MANY TIMES due to servers just handing the check WITHOUT going over it, but I noticed the overcharge or undercharge in a matter of literally 5 seconds, so WHY COULDN'T THEY DO THAT ALSO, YOU KNOW?

Let's say I order Baby Back Ribs at Chili's that come with fries and a bowl of cinnamon apples. I ask for a side of ranch with it as well as 2 extra sides of bbq sauce.

Baby Back Ribs Check
Cinnamon Apples Check
Fries Check
Ranch Check
2 sides of bbq sauce NOT HERE, HAVE TO GET *BEFORE* GOING TO THE TABLE.

See, that took about 10 seconds to verify that plate of food and you would have spent that 10 seconds for sure, plus MORE TIME going and coming back as well as getting a crappy tip for you NOT putting the *EFFORT* into the service to make sure it's correct. I bet if you polled people, they'd say unanimously, they'd want their food correct. You KNOW that's the TRUTH! So, being customers want their food correct, then WHY can't you take the EFFORT to DOUBLE CHECK the food BEFORE taking it to the customer? If you have time to go back to the kitchen for missing items, you DO HAVE TIME to DOUBLE CHECK THE FOOD TO PREVENT THAT SITUATION and YOU KNOW IT!

See, MAKE A CHECK LIST AND DON'T BRING WRONG FOOD TO THE TABLE THAT YOU CAN SEE IS WRONG. If *I* can see something is missing or wrong WITHOUT TOUCHING MY FOOD, YOU CAN TOO! If I knew my income was counting on customers such as a waitress does, then I’d DEFINITELY would TRY MY BEST to make sure the food is correct **********BEFORE************** taking it to the table. If you got let’s say 4 entrees(99% of my outings are only a party of 2-my husband and I). Let’s say each one of them has specifications that aren’t exactly like the menu. If you bring those 4 entrees with things missing let’s say, then you’ll have to go back to the kitchen. WHY THE FUCK DO THAT? WHY? WHY NOT JUST CHECK THE FOOD IN THE KITCHEN INSTEAD? I’ve had a waitress print the ticket correctly, but the cook messed up my order a bunch. I know that she printed it correctly, because the manager told me so. Anyway, she brought out things that were 100% OBVIOUS that were wrong and missing. I ordered the baby back ribs at Chili’s that come with the cinnamon apples and fries. I ordered it this way: Baby back ribs, instead of cinnamon apples I wanted extra fries(I’ve substituted it before many times), 2 sides of honey bbq sauce, 1 side of ranch, and 1 side of mayonnaise. This is what the STUPID WAITRESS DOES: She takes me the plate with the BIG BOWL of cinnamon apples, the ribs, regular amount of fries, and 1 side of ranch. The 2 sides of honey bbq sauce were missing, the side of mayonnaise was missing, my extra fries were missing, as well as the cinnamon apples was on my plate. NOW I didn’t see *ANY* ***EFFORT*** from that waitress to make sure my food was what I EXACTLY ORDERED, DO YOU? Also, doesn’t that look STUPID and make a server feel EMBARRASSED they brought out wrong things or forgot things that COULD VERY WELL HAVE BEEN *PREVENTED*?

"20%, not 15%, and definitely not 10%"

Don't FORGET THINGS then and make an EFFORT to remember them by REREADING THE ORDER YOU WROTE DOWN and COMPARING THAT TO THE PLATE OF FOOD!

YOU’RE AT FAULT for NOT NOTICING IT IN THE KITCHEN. Same thing with a wrong side, like if I ordered beans and you bring me rice, well, YOU took my order, so YOU should take *SOME* ****EFFORT***** to make SURE I have what I ordered as far as what you can SEE.

http://www.mtsusidelines.com/media/paper202/news/2003/10/01/Opinions/Tips-Are.Earned.Rewards.Not.An.Ordained.Right-508957.shtml?norewrite&sourcedomain=www.mtsusidelines.com

“Never, ever take food out that is incorrectly done (I had a waitress rip me a new one for something I goofed up on as a cook and she demanded I fix it then and there - and she was right and I learned). Explain about and apologize for the delay.”

Basically, this is a cook that had a VERY SMART waitress tell the cook basically that: “YOU MADE A MISTAKE, FIX IT BEFORE I BRING OUT THE FOOD WRONG.” So it’s NOT ALWAYS the cook that prepared the food wrong if you took the order and bring out the order wrong. It’s the LAST PERSON who sees the food as long as the ticket was printed correctly as far as if it’s a food runner and if it’s the same server, the same server should compare what they wrote down to the plate of food BEFORE taking it to the customer wrong. I am NOT talking about pickles or burrito fillings that the server CAN’T see without touching the food. I am ONLY talking about things the server can actually *SEE* is wrong with the food or missing.

If you can SEE something is WRONG, *YOU* are at fault for bringing me the wrong food whether or not you printed the ticket correctly! DON'T BRING ME PASTA IF I ORDERED A BURGER! DON'T BRING ME MY MEAL WITHOUT MY SIDE OF RANCH I ORDERED *WITH* MY MEAL! I see *NO EFFORT* on the SERVER’S PART to make sure my meal was handed to me right. DON'T BRING ME MY FOOD WITH THE WRONG SIDE DISH! DON'T BRING ME PICKLES ON MY PLATE IF I SAID "NO PICKLES" and HAVEN'T SPECIFIED THAT I WANTED IT ON THE SIDE. I WOULD THINK IF SOMEONE WOULD SAY "NO PICKLES", THEY WANT "NO" PICKLES EVEN ON THE PLATE, BECAUSE THEY SAID "NO PICKLES"! So the COOK may not read the ticket correctly and cook the wrong side dish like if I order fries, but you bring me beans, you don't have to look like an IDIOT WASTING TIME *****BRINGING***** IT TO ME THAT WAY, DO YOU? I COUNT OFF FOR STUPID SERVERS THAT DON'T *DOUBLE CHECK* THE FOOD AS FAR AS WHAT THEY CAN *SEE* IS WRONG WITH IT! They wrote the order down(hopefully), so there's *SOME* *POSSIBLE* WAY to check the plate BEFORE walking all the way to the table for NOTHING and walking ALL the way back to the kitchen to get it fixed, then walking ALL the way back to the customer's table to bring the correct food. Doesn't that sound STUPID of a server to do that to themselves as well as the customer? If the CUSTOMER can SEE something wrong or missing WITHOUT TOUCHING the food, the SERVER CAN TOO! That is NOT 20% worthy to see that you took *NO EFFORT* to make sure you are taking the correct food to me. Don't tell me something like this crap that "I don't have time", well you did have time to go back to the kitchen to get the missing items all those times you forgot, didn't you? So if you have time to walk to the customer's table, walk back to the kitchen, and then walk back to that table again, then you DEFINATELY HAVE TIME TO DOUBLE CHECK THE FOOD AS FAR AS WHAT YOU CAN *SEE* IS WRONG!

*****BRINGING THE FOOD OUT INCORRECTLY(ONLY WHAT THE SERVER CAN *SEE* THAT IS) IS A MISTAKE WITHIN ITSELF!*******

I had a waitress forget my side of ranch with my appetizer. Then she only brought out 2 instead of 3 tartar sauces I asked for. She also forgot about my fries I ordered. She got 12% tip, because of SOOO MANY mistakes that were COMPLETELY PREVENTABLE, because she could actually SEE those mistakes as well as she DIDN'T apologize for them. If she would have apologized, I would have given 14%. Being nice DOES PAY, LITERALLY! What do you expect for mistakes, I mean really, for ABSOLUTELY *NO* EFFORT to make sure what you are taking the customer is correct? THAT IS YOUR JOB TO BRING CORRECT FOOD(I am ONLY talking about stuff you can SEE is wrong ONLY). I know someone can't see inside a burrito, but you CAN see a missing side of ranch and missing fries. ANY server does LOOK STUPID bringing out food with things missing, because *THEY* TOOK THE ORDER, so you'd think they'd VERIFY that the cook didn't mess up or that they didn't print the ticket incorrectly, but they don't, so their tip suffers as it SHOULD for NO EFFORT! Trusting the cook for your tips is just STUPID, STUPID, STUPID! You can ONLY TRUST YOURSELF FOR YOUR TIPS, GET THAT? YOU MAKE YOUR DESTINY. THE LAST PERSON TO SEE THE THINGS WRONG(AS LONG AS YOU DON'T HAVE TO TOUCH THE FOOD TO SEE IT) IS AT FAULT 100%!

Sometimes the service is worth just 10% when there’s NO EFFORT it seems to get things done RIGHT. This was at Chili’s and the server took my husband and I’s drink order. I ordered a Presidente’margarita with Jose Cuervo tequila instead of Sauza tequila that normally comes in that margarita as well as a dr. pepper and my husband ordered a diet coke. She NEVER BOTHERED TO *WRITE THE ORDERS DOWN, WHICH IS STUPID OF HER! When she came to deliver the drinks, she had my Presidente’ margarita and my husband’s diet coke. I tell her I ordered a dr. pepper and she said she forgot and that she was sorry. The thing is, if she would have WRITTEN IT DOWN, she would have had a CHANCE to remember it, but she was TOO LAZY to do that. Anyway, we ordered our food. I ordered a complicated order. I ordered “Sizzle and Spice selections” which you can pick 2 items which I picked garlic and lime shrimp and half rack of ribs. It also comes with 2 sides-veggies and mashed potatoes, well I substitued both of the sides for 2 sides of fries. I also ordered 2 sides of honey bbq sauce, 1 side of mayo, and 1 side of ranch. I asked if she could bring the condiments before my meal, because I usually ALWAYS have problems when someone else delivers my food, that I don’t have the condiments with my meal. She told me she would bring them before my meal. Well, my dr. pepper I had to wait 13 minutes from being seated to receive and I saw her go to other tables before getting my forgotten drink, which I feel mistakes should take TOP PRIORITY over ANYTHING ELSE. I felt she said “sorry” for her tip, but she didn’t mean it, because she PROVED that, by right before she gave me dr. pepper she gave someone their rung up credit card and check as well as when she delived my dr. pepper FINALLY she WASN’T PREPARED WITH A STRAW and she had to go back to get one. WHAT AN IDIOT I FELT! Keep in mind, which I haven’t mentioned yet, I actually wrote my own food order(not drink order) down which I gave to her as well as she wrote it down as well. So, she had 2 copies of this order. She comes to the table with a “half” side of honey bbq sauce with the other condiments. I had to ask her to make sure they were filled(which I SHOULDN’T have to do) and tell her about the 2nd side of honey bbq sauce I originally asked for. I think she’s STUPID. It was getting IRRIATING AT THIS POINT! I should have NEVER had to REPEAT MY ORDER after she left the table. She NEVER VERIFIED what she was bringing me by comparing the written down order with what she was bringing me. I was happy I asked for it ahead of time, or that would probably have happened when my meal arrived, which would have gotten me really pissed off. While I wasn’t even half way finished when my entrée even, and even though my husband was finished his, she asked TWICE if we wanted a dessert while I was still eating my entree. It’s like she should have just asked if we wanted ANYTHING, NOT to PUSH US OUT by offering a dessert already. She was trying to get us out of her section. I feel since MOST people that dine together share a dessert(that’s why they bring 2 spoons usually), that customers should get to FINISH their meal, before deciding that, because HONESTLY, I had NO CLUE if I wanted a dessert at those points she asked. Anyway, thankfully, she had the decency(probably forgot more than likely than decency) not to charge me for the forgotten dr. pepper. Needless to say she got 10% of the bill that had no dr. pepper on it OBVIOUSLY. I wasn’t about to base my tip on what the bill was supposed to be for her forgetting all those things and making me wait THAT LONG for ONE FREAKIN SOFT DRINK. She DESERVED 10% for being SO DAMN LAZY NOT TO WRITE THE ORDERS DOWN AS WELL AS VERIFYING WHAT SHE WAS HANDING THE CUSTOMER. Also, she deserved it because trying to rush us out which wasn’t going to make me happy that’s for sure. DON’T ask if people want a dessert if EVERYONE ISN’T FINISHED at the table. She tried to rush us out I feel. The second time she asked when I was eating, my husband was eating some of my fries also, so it’s COMMON SENSE that we AREN’T READY TO ORDER A DESSERT YET. I wanted to see if I was going to get too full or not to order a dessert. We ended up ordering a dessert and I ordered another margarita, but at the PACE we WANTED IT, which is the way it SHOULD BE! This happened a few months ago. Do you honestly think she desevered 15% for ALL THOSE MISTAKES considering , these mistakes was her NOT TRYING to get the order correct? She truly wasn’t trying her BEST at ALL nor did she seem to have a CARE in the world about if the order was correct she was taking to me. Someone else brough out our entrees. I normally tip 20%-25% for good service, but all those mistakes were RIDICULOUS ONES. Coming to me with the forgotten dr. pepper with NO STRAW, is JUST SO PREVENTABLE and it just makes her look STUPID! I HATE servers who don’t TRY THEIR BEST and are just TOO LAZY to make sure they are bringing the customers CORRECT things.

So when you say “I am doing the best that I can”, do you see NOW that’s BS? Doing the *BEST* you can is truly making sure you have the tartar sauce for that fish. If you WRITE down the order, you ALWAYS have SOME WAY to verify the food. I know that things like pickles under a bun you wouldn’t be able to see, but missing items or wrong items are things *YOU* CAN SEE. It’s *YOUR JOB* to bring what the customer ordered(as far as what you can see) the FIRST TIME AROUND, so if you don’t do that, you are making your tips be bad. Don’t you see that? You say “definitely not 10%”, well DEFINITELY VERIFY WHAT THE HELL YOU ARE BRINGING TO CUSTOMERS THEN! DON’T BE LAZY AND TAKE SOME ACTION IF YOU WANT 20% or more! TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR TIP! DOUBLE CHECK THINGS TO MAKE SURE YOU DON’T HAVE THINGS MISSING OR WRONG ITEMS! I’ve gotten a COMPLETELY WRONG entrée brought by a waiter one time that took my order and wrote it down. HE LOOKED LIKE A COMPLETE IDIOT! Doing your “BEST” means getting the order correct. Doing your best is also writing the order down, which I have had quite a number of soft drinks forgotten. I also had a waiter that didn't write the order down for soft drinks and he brings me sprite instead of dr. pepper that I had ordered. PUT SOME EFFORT INTO YOUR WORK! YOU WANT 20%-25%, THEN *WORK* FOR IT! CARE ABOUT YOUR CUSTOMERS! What if that was "YOU" as the customer? Wouldn't you be irritated when your food gets delivered without a condiment you like or a side dish you ordered? Think how "THEY" feel and that way, if you consider that, you will verify the food instead of just taking the food to table 6 without even worrying about if it's correct or not. THAT IS SO UNCARING of the server to just bring the food WITHOUT EVEN *TRYING* TO VERIFY THAT THE SIDE OF TARTAR SAUCE IS THERE AS YOU SAID IN YOUR BLOG. You know that your tips depend on your service to the customer, so WHY don't you just *TRY* YOUR BEST for real, instead of just ACTING like it?

I followed the link from here to see your blog, and saw about 5 of them listed that all looked like they contained the same bitter crap you just left for me. I decided not to visit them. Nor, did I wish to defend my skills as a server; a human being that makes mistakes once in a while, and yes, apologizes when she does.

You need a chill pill.

I'd bet you have a hard Saturn/Mercury aspect in your chart. Critical-minded. Lighten up. What's up with you that makes you so mean and judgmental? I am telling you, that Saturn is a hard task-master. Maybe you're a super Virgo/Scorpio.

Take my word for it, I can give excellent service - great pacing, very professional and courteous - and still have people like you bust my chops for something I did or didn't do. Where are you Minnesota? I used to bartend on concourse C where there were Minnesota/Wisconsin travelers predominantly. There was no pleasing them to get a decent tip. Then, there are those who wish to reform establishments to pay servers decent wages so they don't have to tip. Once, somebody left me a business size card explaining their philosophy on not tipping. Give me a break. And if you leave another vitriolic message, I shall have to delete it. You disturb my peace.

“A human being that makes mistakes once in a while, and yes, apologizes when she does.”

At least you apologize, but still, you call a “Mistake” forgetting someone’s sauce when you haven’t *TRIED* to get the order correct by comparing the plate of food to the order that was written down. A “Mistake” is when you have truly *TRIED* YOUR ****BEST*****, which you prove in your blog, you DON’T do that by bringing out food that has missing items. Trying your best, truly means VERIFYING EVERYTHING on the list. If you missed something on the list, then at least you *TRIED* to verify most of the stuff, but not to even look at that pad of paper with the written order is just being LAZY. Do you do verify the food you bring to customers EVER? Do you verify EVERYTHING down a list and go check, check? If you don’t, that’s NOT TRYING your BEST. That’s PURE LAZINESS and YOU KNOW IT! A mistake is when you have compared the plate of food to the written down order, but didn’t realize you didn’t read the ENTIRE order. In other words, a mistake is when you at least *ATTEMPTED* to get the order correct. I bet you just bring the food out to the table and NEVER, EVER, verify ANYTHING, DON’T YOU? Just admit that, please.

“Where are you Minnesota?”

NO, Louisiana.

“There was no pleasing them to get a decent tip.”

I mainly want the order correct, is that truly TOO DAMN MUCH TO ASK? Sure, there are other things that go wrong like overcharges that had nothing to do with my food being correct or not or servers taking 10-15 minutes to get a check rung up, which those things I do count against the tip. I feel servers should VERIFY *ANYTHING* they hand to the customer, whether it’s the food or drinks. You want a decent tip, do a *DECENT* job. Actually TRY YOUR BEST. Not verifying the food IS NOT AT ALL TRYING YOUR BEST. You KNOW that is the God’s truth. Trying your best is making sure things are correct as far as what you can actually see.

“Take my word for it, I can give excellent service - great pacing, very professional and courteous - and still have people like you bust my chops for something I did or didn't do.”

Do you call “Excellent service” forgetting items? If you do, I can’t believe you’d think that was “Excellent”. Excellent service is NO MISTAKES PERIOD FROM THE SERVER. I have given 20% to servers if they are very apologetic about the forgotten item. I don’t give 25% for forgetting ANYTHING, because 25% or more is given when the service is absolutely PERFECT. If there are mistakes that is the cook’s fault like if you printed the ticket correctly, but my burrito has beans instead of beef, then that’s the COOK’S fault, NOT YOURS, so I wouldn’t count that in your tip at ALL, because you CAN’T CONTROL what you CAN’T SEE. You can however; control if there is a missing sauce. Think about that!

“What's up with you that makes you so mean and judgmental?”

You don’t quite understand HOW MANY TIMES I’ve gotten my food delivered to me WRONG. Almost all the times I go out to eat, I usually get condiments of some sort. I get ranch for fries. If I get a sandwich I get extra mayonnaise and a little mustard. I get it on the SIDE so I can put the amount I want on the sandwich, because once it’s on there, it’s really hard to get off the bun. I don’t like a lot of mustard, but love lots of mayonnaise. Also, it makes me mad to see you would say “I am doing the best that I can, and don't take it personal if I forget something you asked for - like the sauce on the side instead of on the fish”, when you can CLEARLY TAKE SOME *EFFORT* to see that it’s ON THE FISH, NOT TO TAKE IT TO THE CUSTOMER THAT WAY. Don’t you see how STUPID that is of the server to take the food WRONG and you can plainly see it’s WRONG? YOU AREN’T TRYING YOUR *BEST* and that is what makes me the MOST MAD that you say “YOUR BEST”, but don’t bother to verify a DAMN THING. That’s PURE LAZINESS!

I feel I almost have to BEG servers to bring me my condiments, literally, because I have been lately asking for them to bring it out even before an appetizer. Now, do you understand that I SHOULDN’T feel I should have to do this? I should feel that the server should DO THEIR JOB and bring me the 2 tartar sauces and 1 side of ranch I asked for, let’s say. I should be able to TRUST them. I shouldn’t have to WAIT to eat my food when it arrives, because LAZY servers aren’t verifying that the ranch and bbq sauce wasn’t on the plate. I don’t feel I should have to ask them to make a separate trip, but if I don’t, chances are, they’ll be making a separate trip anyway, because they would forget. I just rather have my condiment BEFORE my food arrives if they are going to be forgotten. I’ve even had one server I asked SPECIFICALLY in a NICE way, could she possibly bring the condiments before my meal and she said she would. The food runner, OF COURSE, brings the food WITHOUT the condiments which I ordered a sandwich, so I am NOT going to eat a DRY sandwich. She said she was sorry, but I gave her 10% for LYING to me. I TRIED to PREVENT this crap from happening as I usually knew that a lot of times other people bring the food to customers that didn’t take their orders. She just IGNORES my request, so the hell with her tip. She could have gotten it even before she printed the ticket even. At least I would have had my condiments WHEN MY FOOD ARRIVED, that I didn’t have to WAIT TO EAT, even though my food may have been delayed from cooking possibly, at least when my food arrived, I could have just started eating. That REALLY PISSES ME OFF when someone LIES to me. If I can see I don’t have the condiments I asked for, so can the server. If it’s someone else that brings the food out, I don’t get why they either don’t read the ticket or the server didn’t print it on the ticket? I eat almost EVERYTHING with condiments. Ribs, sandwiches, burgers, salads, pancakes(syrup, butter), fries, seafood, etc. My point is, even if I would order the food exactly, sometimes some servers don’t even know that there’s a side of ranch that COMES with the food, because they don’t verify the menu. I’ve had cheese fries delivered with the ranch that was stated it CAME WITH ON THE MENU. If *I* know the menu MORE than they do and they WORK there, there’s SOMETHING WRONG with that.

“Forgive the waiter/ess if they don't bring you the extra lemon or dressing that you were asking for.”

I am more likely to forgive when servers apologize, which you say you do, but you are RARE. I hardly EVER get apologizes and I am NOT rude to the servers by any means. All I say is something like this: “I ordered a side of ranch” when they bring my food without the ranch. I am NOT rude to them, but I guess they don’t see it as a big enough mistake to apologize for. Condiments are a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE, part of my dining. If I don’t have the condiments I like with my food, I REFUSE to eat it without them, because it’s just NOT AS GOOD without them, it really isn’t. I went out to eat in the first place to enjoy the food, so if I don’t have the condiments that I enjoy my food with, then I WON’T be enjoying my dining experience if I have to WAIT TO EAT when my food arrives. I’ve, sometimes, have waited 3-5 minutes for condiments, meanwhile my husband that isn’t as a picky eater as me, is eating(which I tell him not to let his food get cold). So I am there doing NOTHING until my condiments arrive, fun, fun, fun, you know. These mistakes are truly PREVENTABLE if you just reread the order and compared that order with the plate of food. If you don’t know the menu, compare that as well. DON’T bring out food that is incorrect as far as what you can SEE. My BIGGEST pet peeve is the condiment issue of the servers not remembering my condiments I order. I have this problem at EVERY RESTAURANT I frequent. I’ve had this problem LOTS of times at Red Lobster, Chili’s, and Applebee’s. Servers just aren’t VERIFYING what they are taking to the customers is correct. It’s really RIDICULOUS that I am having to ask the servers to bring the condiments before my food arrives. I can’t put my trust into them ANYMORE. It’s one thing when a food runner takes the food to me without the ranch, but if it’s the SAME SERVER that took my order, there’s NO EXCUSE for not having that ranch on the plate, NONE! YOU TOOK MY ORDER, YOU SHOULD *KNOW* WHAT I SAID! Honestly, the ONLY, ONLY, ONLY, person that TRULY knows my order is the server that took my order. The cook doesn’t know and the food runner doesn’t know for sure what I actually said. If you can’t put any EFFORT into getting my order to me CORRECT as far as what you can see, then what kind of tip do you expect? Do you expect to be “REWARDED” for “FORGETTING”? If you do, then you are very selfish then, because when I worked at a donut shop/diner that served regular food and donuts(I was counter help), I knew when I messed up by printed the ticket wrong or if I forgot something, I KNEW I DESERVED a low to nothing tip, so WHY don’t YOU feel the SAME? WHY NOT 10% if that is what you truly DESERVE? Yes, I made at least minimum wage plus tips, but I still didn’t expect to get *PAID* very well to mess up someone’s order. WHY DON’T YOU FEEL THE SAME? At least I UNDERSTAND what it’s like when “I’M” a customer, but it looks like YOU DON’T. Why do you expect to get a great tip for forgetting things? I sure didn’t expect that when I messed up. Sometimes I just did things to fast and forgot something, but you know what, yes, that was lazy of me, but I didn’t expect to get paid a penny for messing up someone’s order. Do you understand that some servers such as yourself aren’t TRYING to get the order correct, so WHAT kind of tip do you EXPECT when you mess up? At least I faced reality years ago when I worked at the donut shop for 2 years. I expected NOT to get tipped when I messed up or a low tip. Shouldn’t you do the SAME?

I honestly didn’t do “MY BEST” when I didn’t verify the dozen of donuts that I handed to the customer in drive-thru, because I have handed wrong dozen to people, which was LAZY of me, but it was because I wanted service to go fast, because drive-thru is supposed to be quick. I didn’t get tipped very often in drive-thru, but my point is, I am ADMITTING I DIDN’T ALWAYS TRY MY BEST, so what could I expect to get, a tip or a good tip, HELL NO! I have learned a LOT more since then, because I am a customer every weekend. See, back then, I was living with my parents and my mom cooked a lot, so I didn’t eat out very often, so I didn’t have these problems very often and when I did, it was rare, because my mom and I would go at oddball times like 11a.m. for lunch or 6a.m. at Denny’s, NEVER at 7p.m. on a Friday or Saturday night. So since the restaurant had a minimal amount of customers, I didn’t have as many mistakes, because there weren’t as many customers to serve. The more customers, the more possibly for mistakes that can be made. My point is, I learned a lot since I’ve met my husband at the end of the year 2000 and now. I’ve learned a lot in the past 5 years(not counting the year 2000, because we met in late 2000). I’ve gotten my condiments forgotten SOOOOOO MANY times in the past 5 years. It’s really RIDICULOUS and SAD when I have to ask the server to make a special trip, because I can’t trust they’ll bring the condiments with my meal.

“Once, somebody left me a business size card explaining their philosophy on not tipping. Give me a break.”

I’ll agree with this, that this was a very cold-hearted thing to do. I DO TIP, but I tip BETTER when DESERVED. When I actually see the servers ****TRY***** to get my order delivered to me correctly. I’ve had 5 servers in the past 5 years VOLUNTEER to bring the condiments before my meal without me having to ask them, because they *CARED* if I was happy. YOU obviously DON’T care about your customers requests that you don’t verify what you are taking to them. I have left zero tip before, but the service has to be VERY, VERY, VERY, bad for me to stoop that low. I give what people deserve. Just like when a person gets a raise. The boss gives a raise if you DESERVE one, so WHY can’t the customer feel the same when tipping a certain amount?

Is springs1 trying to write "The American Novel" on YOUR blog site. Egads....we all love to talk, but this?? Try condensing your thoughts....it's alot more effective than this tirade.

I don't know why this blog stopped posting comments. I could barely read the whole thing, just the first sentences addressing things I wrote about that I feel righteous about.

I am glad to be out of the restaurant industry, and I'll slap my own face if I ever think that's a good way to make a living for me.

Springs1, you will always find what you are looking for.
